Leak Detection

We find the leak with a meter, acoustic listening, and pressure testing, then show you where it is before any wall or slab opens.

Serving Rockwall, Heath, Rowlett, Garland, and east DFW.

Straight answers on leak detection.

Most destructive leaks announce themselves quietly: a water bill that climbs, a meter that creeps with everything off, a smell of mildew with no visible water. The job is to find the source without tearing your house apart hunting for it, and that takes method, not luck.

We start with the evidence your meter already provides, isolate zones with shutoffs, listen with acoustic equipment through walls and floors, and pressure-test sections to pin the leak to a length of pipe. Then we mark the spot and show you what we found before we talk repairs. When the culprit turns out to be a toilet flapper or an irrigation valve instead of a pipe under the slab, we tell you, because the cheapest repair is the one you don't need.

Signs you need this

  • Water bill up, usage unchanged
  • The meter moves with every fixture off
  • Musty or mildew smell with no visible water
  • Wet spots, dark patches, or soft drywall
  • Hearing water where nothing is running
  • Low pressure that came on gradually

How CLEAR handles it

1

We show you the problem

We run the meter test with you watching, then trace the leak with acoustic and pressure methods and mark the exact spot we found.

2

You get the upfront price

The detection work is priced first, and the repair options are priced in writing, with the leak located so the price isn't a guess.

3

Clean work

When a repair needs access, we open the smallest opening that does the job, protect what's around it, and patch what we open.

4

We walk you through it

After the repair, the meter test runs again with you watching, and it holds still. That's the proof the leak is fixed.

Not sure which side of the table you're on?

We'll inspect your leak detection, lay out both options in writing, and you pick. No pressure, either way.

Winterization

Freeze season is when pipes burst. Winterization is how you skip it.

When water freezes inside a pipe, it expands, and the pressure between two ice plugs splits the pipe, often inside a wall, under a sink, or in the attic, where a burst runs until someone finds the shutoff. A single burst pipe can do thousands of dollars in water damage in an afternoon. The fix is cheap and routine: insulate the exposed lines, protect the hose bibs, and disconnect every garden hose so the faucet can fully drain.

That is exactly why winterization is included in the CLEAR Care Plan. Members get it before the first freeze every year, right alongside the annual whole-home inspection and water heater flush, at no extra cost. Non-members can book it as a one-time visit.

What your winterization visit covers

  • Insulating exposed pipes in the attic, garage, and along exterior walls
  • Protecting every outdoor hose bib with insulated covers
  • Disconnecting hoses and confirming each faucet drains properly
  • Checking vulnerable runs in older homes and new builds alike
  • Walking you through your main shutoff, so a surprise never turns into a mess

Questions about leak detection

How accurate is leak detection?+

Isolating zones with your meter plus acoustic listening typically narrows a leak to a few feet of pipe, which keeps the repair opening small and the price down.

Is it destructive?+

No. Detection is listening, testing, and measuring. Opening walls or slabs only happens for the repair, at the spot we've marked and shown you.

How long does it take?+

Most residential leak finds take one to two hours. Slab leaks and long irrigation runs can take longer, and we'll tell you when they do.

What if the leak is in the sewer line?+

Then we switch tools and camera the line. Water leaks and sewer leaks behave differently, and the meter test tells us which one we're chasing.

Can you just tell me if it's something simple?+

Often, yes. A running toilet, a stuck irrigation valve, or a dripping hose bib explains a surprising number of mystery bills, and we're happy when that's the answer.

Common plumbing questions

How long should a water heater last?

Most tank heaters serve 8 to 12 years in North Texas. Annual flushes stretch that; sediment and hard water cut it short. If yours is past 10, we'll tell you whether repair still makes sense.

Why is my water pressure low?

Usually a failing pressure regulator, a partially closed valve, or mineral buildup in older lines. We find the cause on the first visit and give you the price before touching anything.

Where is my main water shutoff?

Typically on the line entering your home near the water heater or along a front exterior wall. Every adult in the house should know it. We'll point it out on any service visit, free.

Is a running toilet really costing me money?

Yes. A flapper that doesn't seal can quietly waste hundreds of gallons a day. It's a quick, inexpensive repair that usually pays for itself in the first month's water bill.

What actually counts as a plumbing emergency?

Water you can't shut off, sewage backing up into the home, or a suspected gas leak. Those, call immediately. Everything else can usually wait for a scheduled visit with an upfront price.

Does hard water damage plumbing?

Over years, yes. Scale narrows pipes, wears out valves, and shortens heater life. A whole-home approach or regular flushes manages it; we'll show you what your levels look like.
